So CK2+ Game still. Let me tell you about Fylkja Alfhidr.(I'm about 15 years past this point.)So Alfhidr came to the throne at 14, not long after I'd made a major mistake. I'd managed to make the Emperor title primogeniture but nothing else, meaning that when my last ruler died Alfhidr inherited the Religious head title, the Empire and one tiny ass pictish island. So basically I was pathetically weak and one my vassals control almost all of my land, thankfully I had managed to arrange a betrothal between Alfhidr and him before my last ruler died.

After a terrifying Regency I managed to create a rather Awesome Character, due to her upbringing and a hilariously awesome combo of Shield Maiden( I think a CK2+ Only trait) and Berserker, she's martially one of the strongest characters I've had in the game. Realizing she didn't want to remain at the mercies of her Vassal Husband for the rest of her reign, she turned her attention to Scottland, which had managed to free itself from norse control some 15 years prior, and wouldn't you know it the Great Holy War timer had expired.Right around this time she earned the Nickname 'Bloodaxe' Because why not.The War itself actually turned into battle between me and Ireland, as the Scottish army lasted two battles before being broken entirely. Ireland for some reason is really goddamn strong in this playthrough and had to nearly bankrupt myself buying mercs just to keep an edge on them. Actually managed to end in one of those moments I swear would be in stories in it's own reality, an epic melee between Fylkja Alfhidr. And the High King of Ireland. A Christian King, likely decked in full armor versus a Mad Beresker Viking Woman in the hills of Scotland.

Eventually the King was captured and I won the war. Then I hung a few of the Irish King's Vassals in a Blot at my new home in Scotland, because that's how Alfhidr rolls. Click to expand. Click to shrink. It is. BTW, The game starts literally just before the Vampire's attempt to conquer the Empire. It's before, because literally within weeks, Vlad Von Carstein gets a event to start the Wars of the Vampire Counts.Of course, that means fighting the Age of Three Emperors. The crazy thing about that Civil War?It basically started in 1360. You might notice it is been some time since then.It ends in canon in 2304.To sum up what that means: It is basically as if the HRE existed at the start of the game, with all the Karling lands, plus Spain, but the pope resides in Koln. Now, A faction exists and presses it's demand.

Among it's Supporters is the Caliphate of Cordoba. Which is a loyal vassal of the HRE, and the worship of Islam is legal as well. The Emperor decides to fight them. And loses badly. And during Negotiations, a horde of demons appears and kills all parties. Now, Fast forward to the 1066 start, And the two factions are still fighting.

And Then, An Orthodox Italy with the support of the Ecumenical Patriarch, who is residing in Rome declares it's ruler Emperor and breaks. And they only stop fighting near the end of EU4. It's 975.Fylkja Alfhidr' the Bloodaxe' is dead at 45, having been on the throne some 31 years. In many ways it's an end of an era, while her daughter is basically a calmer, gayer version of her, her son the now current Fylkir is a rather unimpressive guy with meh stats all around, he's also Norwegian for some reason, one of the first of that culture.Norse is starting to lose it's meaning, being replaced by Norwegian and Swedish, Danish and Icelandic, even Norman. The second half of Alfidr's reign was a lot more controversial then the First half. After pushing her long time enemy, High King Conan of Ireland, out of Scotland in a series of wars that saw the king wounded and maimed, and managing to crush to Catholic Scottish revolt, Alfhidr ran into two major problems, her vassals and her husband. Her Vassals, are to put it simply, way too adventurous. This is a common issue I've notice with Norse games, once your empire reaches a certain size your vassals just began attacking whatever they could find.

In my case this has lead to them taking chunks out of the Lovcraftian mess of Kingdoms and Duches that run through all of France and Northern Spain. Also bits of Southern Italy. This is a problem because there's someone else who has interest in Southern italy, Byzantines. Byzantines are nowhere close to restoring the Empire in full in this game but they've had a good run, Jersualem is theirs as is Tunisia and the Coast of Egypt. So when they came for my Italian holdings they came with literally twice as many men as I could muster. So I got stomped. To make matters worse I was left so crippled in terms of manpower than Finnish indepence revolt a few months later was able to defeat me, costing me Finland. Then there was Alfidr's husband, Something unpronounceable 'The Cruel'.

Problem with him is he kept having sons with his concubines. To make matters worse, like due to how the various different crown laws where interacting, these concubine children where set to inherit the various kingdom titles the husband had. Not okay, so Alfidr murdered the Concubine children, so the husband just got another Concubine, so she murdered her husband, and was found out. Slapped with Dishonorable and Kinslayer, not to mention her daughter and Son, now her biggest vassal, hated her intensely.

Which further added to my lack of manpower problems during the Finnish revolt. So Alfidr left her empire in a mixed state. Stronger in the West but weaker in the east, The Empire stronger yet it's position more unstable, her legacy was glorious, but tainted by what she did to keep it alive.Edit: The King of Ireland's name was Conan. Click to expand. Click to shrink.Wound from the Finnish revolt got infected (Through it's listed as natural causes when you check her now for some strange reason). Not Glorious but pretty much the same way the Irish King she fought so often against died (well he died from limb loss but still).I had my crown authority taken from Medium to low almost as the day after she died, mainly because it was either that or face a revolt I literally couldn't afford.

So I now have a crap Leader with less ability to control their vassals, right as Catholics got the ability to go on crusade. Yes Crusades about a hundred years before when they started in our time, it's that kind of universe. I mean sure Most of Spain is Catholic and Arabia is controlled by Christians, albeit Heretical Christians, but you got organized Norse in the South of France, that's not okay. It's funny how violent being Norse/Germanic is in CK2 and CK2+, even when it's organized. In the two hundred something years since I've created the Fylkirate title. Only three of the Twelve people who've held that title have died from anything other then Combat or complications from combat.

And I think only one of my leaders has lived past Fifty five (had a fair amount of regencies though), ironically that person was Ragnar Lodbrok. Who in this timeline basically turned Norse into an actual organized religion (by looting the shit out of ireland and even spain) and turned Sweden into an actual kingdom, he live into his seventies before dying of depression, his son died from maiming in his fifties, and his son's sons both died in a Civil War.
