These computers are not connected to our network and generally won't be utilizing a VPN on any sort of regular basis to do so (most of them probably never will).We're looking to find a tool that can help us keep these off-site computers updated without having to rely on the end user either completing the updates or bringing the computer in on a regular basis.Ninite Pro seems capable of doing what we'd like, but I'd also like to look at any other software that can manage third-party application updates (preferably without the end user needing administrative permissions). Any suggestions?.
From looking at the Ninite Pro website, it appears that the machines would still need to be connected to the network for you to have the level of interaction needed. Maybe I'm missing something.Viewfinity does offer a Systems Mgmt solution that can work with offsite computers that have an Internet connection. I don't know their pricing for the product, and it probably varies depending on how many you purchase.
I think this is available as SaaS (Software as a Service), so you don't even have to setup servers and such, you just manage the clients thru a web console. I don't think we'd get the full feature set out of Pro but I think we could utilize the update mode to just have it scan and update all apps. Since we couldn't take advantage of the full feature set though this is a good reason to look at or for alternatives (so thanks for your suggestion).I haven't gone into testing yet with it since I'm still gathering names of what I'd want to test. If others who have submitted here are curious I can update this thread later with information about if or how the updater portion works with offsite computers.

I had to convince the owner of my shop to buy it.Before Ninite, I had made a batch file that would use silent switches on most installers that we would use. Once a month, I would take about an hour to update the installer exe files to the latest version then verify everything was still working.Then I timed how long the install took using Ninite and using my batch file. It was about the same (including Ninite download time). So using Ninite Pro, you don't have the download times for the most part, so it cut the install time in half.All in all it saved a few minutes per install, plus an hour or two of my time each month.
I don't remember the exact figure, but I think it's saving us like $100/mo. I'm not sure how I'd be able to script the fresh reloads on my off-campus computers since they won't have access to a hosted network share from which to retrieve the updated applications.Is there a way on startup or login to successfully script the updater programs to run silently with admin credentials? I've had success with shutting the auto update notifications down for my on network computers since I push updates out through GP, but for the computers that roam free I've had little success getting things to work when dealing with user level accounts.Basically I'm trying to avoid what Flawd was doing prior to Ninite. These computers don't make their way to me unless something is very wrong with them (and sometimes not even then.), and we can't really ask our clients to tote them in every month.
