I found this game to be quite mediocre to poor. The problem with the smaller levels is they really simplify the way to tackle them. You got a turret, an enemy solider, a panel to hack, or a vent to crawl through. This is repeated ad nauseum instead of building more organic layouts. The simplified resources is stupid as hell. I never had to hold back on hacking, nor did I run out of ammo with weapons. You can put so many augmented buffs that are passive then just take a couple abilities to be a god. Then the story goes screwy loopy.

Sides get mad at you, send enemies to attack you, then say they hope you learned your lesson and change your tune. The fuck is that crap? Then the end part where you go back through the old base and get a taste of how horribly gutted the sequel was in terms of expansiveness and possibilities.

Ending choices are all worse than the original which were also rushed. The 'its a good game just not a good X game' is bs. This game is medicore to poor with its story, gameplay, and design concessions to multiplatform development.

Its all a huge step back. As a non deus ex game, it still has all these shortcomings.

Not comparing it to deus ex doesnt excuse any of its faults. The coolest part of DX:IW was that you could shoot grenades while they were still attached to enemy belts.

Everything else was pretty blah. The biggest issue wasn't even the removal of the skill system, the unified ammo, the UI, etc. The biggest issue was that the levels were just completely forgettable. The first game was packed full of memorable moments.

Some were scripted, others were emergent. Nothing. It would have been interesting to see how the game would have turned out if it had remained a PC exclusive instead of being turned into an Xbox game half way through development.

But you can swim from the start in Deus Ex, in fact you have to swim in the first area to explore it, including finding a small shipwreck with items/a safe still inside iirc. I mean, it's an RPG hybrid adventure so yeah you have stats and shit to increase and they matter in your effectiveness from combat to whatever else, that's not a game fault, just not what you want out of a game. What you want isn't better, just different, and doesn't open what's different to veiled ridicule attempts as criticism.

Oh, he's inaccurate like a 5 year old with a sniper rifle if I invest all my points in other skills, that's like a 5 year old trying to hurt a piece of software's feelings.
